Benefits of thyroid cancer recovery supplements

Replace what surgery and RAI took away

Your thyroid gland produced more than just T4 and T3. It also produced T2, T1, calcitonin, and other peptides that your body used for metabolism, temperature regulation, and cellular signaling.

When surgery or RAI destroys that tissue, levothyroxine only replaces one of those hormones. Thyroid Glandular+ provides freeze-dried bovine thyroid tissue containing the full spectrum of naturally occurring thyroid peptides and cofactors that your replacement medication doesn’t cover.

Restore T2 for metabolic recovery

T2 (3,5-diiodothyronine) is a thyroid hormone that your gland used to produce naturally, but it’s never replaced after thyroid cancer treatment.

Research shows T2 directly stimulates mitochondrial activity and thermogenesis through pathways that are independent of T3. That means even if your T3 levels look perfect on paper, you can still feel metabolically sluggish without T2. Essential T2 provides bioidentical T2 in oral form, while T2 Cream delivers it topically for targeted support, especially for cold hands, feet, and extremities that plague so many thyroid cancer survivors.

Optimize T4-to-T3 conversion on suppression therapy

Many thyroid cancer patients are placed on TSH suppression therapy, which means taking a higher dose of levothyroxine to keep TSH very low and reduce recurrence risk.

The problem? You’re getting a lot of T4, but your body still has to convert it to T3 for your cells to actually use it. Without adequate selenium, zinc, and the right cofactors, that conversion process is inefficient, and you end up with high T4, low-ish T3, and feeling terrible despite “good” numbers. T3 Conversion Booster provides exactly what your body needs to make the most of the T4 you’re taking.

Usable with all thyroid medications

I designed every single one of these formulas with thyroid patients in mind. That means they are safe and effective alongside Synthroid, levothyroxine, Tirosint, NDT formulations like Armour and NP Thyroid, liothyronine, and any combination of T4 + T3.

Whether you’re on standard replacement or TSH suppression therapy, these supplements work with your medication, not against it. Note: Thyroid Glandular+ contains trace amounts of naturally occurring thyroid hormones, so mention it to your oncologist at your next visit.

Target cold extremities with topical T2

Cold hands and feet are one of the most persistent complaints I hear from thyroid cancer survivors, and they often don’t improve even when TSH is optimized.

That’s because peripheral thermogenesis depends heavily on T2, which you’re no longer producing. T2 Cream allows you to apply bioidentical T2 directly to your hands, feet, or any area where you feel the cold most intensely. It absorbs through the skin and provides localized metabolic support right where you need it.

A few common questions

Before you order

Why do I still feel terrible after thyroid cancer treatment if my labs are normal?

This is the #1 question I get from thyroid cancer survivors, and it has a real answer. Your thyroid gland produced at least 5 different hormones and signaling molecules: T4, T3, T2, T1, and calcitonin, plus various peptides and cofactors. Levothyroxine only replaces T4. Even if your doctor adds T3 (liothyronine), you’re still missing T2, which directly activates mitochondria and contributes to thermogenesis through pathways T3 doesn’t touch. You’re also missing the glandular peptides that supported cellular processes we’re still discovering. “Normal” labs measure T4 and T3 but completely miss everything else your thyroid used to produce. That’s why supplements that provide T2 and glandular support can make such a dramatic difference.

Are these safe for thyroid cancer patients on suppression therapy?

Yes. These supplements are designed to work alongside TSH suppression therapy. T2, selenium, zinc, and the botanicals in T3 Conversion Booster do not interfere with TSH suppression because they support conversion efficiency and cellular function rather than stimulating TSH production. The one supplement to discuss with your oncologist is Thyroid Glandular+, since it contains trace amounts of naturally occurring thyroid hormones from bovine tissue.

How is this different from the RAI Recovery page?

The RAI Recovery page is designed for patients who received radioactive iodine for any reason, including Graves’ disease or hyperthyroidism, and focuses on recovering thyroid function after radiation damage. This Thyroid Cancer Recovery page is specifically curated for cancer survivors, with an emphasis on supporting recovery during or after TSH suppression therapy, addressing the unique metabolic challenges of complete or near-complete thyroid loss, and the specific T2 deficit that results from surgical and RAI destruction of thyroid tissue. There’s overlap in some products because the underlying physiology is similar, but the context and approach are tailored to the cancer recovery experience.

How soon after surgery or RAI can I start these?

For post-surgical recovery, most patients can begin supplements once they’re eating normally and their surgical team clears them, usually within 1-2 weeks. For post-RAI, I recommend waiting at least 2-4 weeks after your RAI treatment to allow the radioactive iodine to clear your system before starting any thyroid-supporting supplements, especially those containing iodine or thyroid glandular. The T2 supplements (Essential T2 and T2 Cream) and T3 Conversion Booster can typically be started sooner since they don’t interfere with RAI effectiveness. Always confirm timing with your oncologist based on your specific treatment protocol.

Which supplement should I start with?

If you want the simplest starting point, grab the Thyroidectomy Recovery Support Stack. It bundles the most essential post-surgery supplements together so you don’t have to figure out which individual products to combine. If you prefer to start with individual supplements, begin with Essential T2 and T3 Conversion Booster. The T2 addresses the hormone your medication doesn’t replace, and the conversion booster ensures you’re getting maximum benefit from the levothyroxine you’re taking. Add Thyroid Glandular+ once your oncologist confirms you’re in a stable monitoring phase.

Will these supplements interfere with my thyroglobulin monitoring?

T2 supplements, T3 Conversion Booster, and the vitamins and minerals in these formulas do not interfere with thyroglobulin (Tg) monitoring, which is the primary tumor marker used to detect thyroid cancer recurrence. Thyroid Glandular+ contains bovine thyroglobulin, but bovine and human thyroglobulin are structurally different, and modern Tg assays are specific to human thyroglobulin. That said, it’s always wise to inform your oncologist about all supplements you’re taking so they have the full picture when interpreting your surveillance labs. If you’re due for a Tg draw, some physicians prefer patients to pause glandular supplements for a few days beforehand out of an abundance of caution.

The Thyroidectomy Recovery Support Stack combines support for thyroid conversion, T2, and daily function after treatment. Your cancer team can account for these products when planning hormone dosing, scans, and follow-up testing.
