T2 is the only thyroid hormone available over the counter, and most thyroid patients have never heard of it.
But taking it has the potential to dramatically improve your thyroid symptoms and help you lose weight.
Here are 5 reasons why I strongly believe every thyroid patient should consider taking it:

#1. Healthy People Create It All The Time
T2, known as 3,5-diodo-l-thyronine, is not new or dangerous.
Researchers have known about it for decades.
The simple fact that it’s not as well known as other thyroid hormones sometimes puts thyroid patients off.
They wrongly believe that it must be dangerous, or they would have heard about it from their doctor.
But there’s no evidence or reason to think this is the case, especially since the healthy body naturally produces T2 every single day.
In fact, the exact opposite is probably true.
Emerging research suggests that T2 is not only a powerful but important thyroid hormone that helps other thyroid hormones do their job as well as providing its own benefits.
Which leads us to…

#2. It May Be The Most Powerful Thyroid Hormone Regulating Metabolism
Every thyroid hormone has an action and a purpose, for example:
- T4 acts as a reservoir for the creation of other thyroid hormones.
- T3 is the most biologically active thyroid hormone, and it does the heavy lifting when it comes to energy and metabolism.
- T2 also regulates metabolism and supports T3 binding.
- And T1, well, we aren’t quite sure what T1 does just yet.
But here’s what’s interesting:
Some researchers believe that T2 may actually be even more powerful than T3 when it comes to regulating metabolism.
It does this by helping your body turn white fat into brown fat and by increasing cellular energy production.
This means taking it helps you naturally burn more calories at rest.
But perhaps even more important is the fact that it does not have a catabolic effect on muscle mass like T3 does when taken in high amounts.
So you not only get to preserve your muscles, you also get to burn more fat.

#3. It Complements Other Thyroid Hormones & Is Usable With All Thyroid Medications
Worried about interactions with your thyroid medication? Don’t be.
T2 perfectly complements both T4 and T3 and may help to stabilize their levels and support their function.
For instance, we know that T2 helps T3 more easily activate your cells (by acting as a ligand).

And my own experience suggests that taking T2 slows the breakdown of T4 into T3 and T3 into T2.
In other words, taking T2 allows those hormones to stay in your system longer, allowing them to do their job.
And if we look at a healthy person without thyroid problems, we know that they are naturally producing all four thyroid hormones.
So our default position should be that T2 is obviously important, otherwise the body wouldn’t create it.
By adding T2 to your existing thyroid medication, you are more closely mimicking the thyroid hormone production of someone who is healthy.

#4. It Helps Regulate & Lower Cholesterol
Cholesterol is huge for thyroid patients because the low thyroid state directly leads to high cholesterol.
This is why research shows that up to 70% of hypothyroid patients have high cholesterol!
The good news is that T2 may be able to help with this problem:
It does this by helping your body clear out extra LDL particles and by reducing how much cholesterol your liver makes.
This translates to a drop in LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol in the blood when taken.
It’s not a cholesterol-lowering medication per se, but this could be an added bonus for those who take it.

#5. It Supports Muscle Tone
Through its actions on cytochrome c oxidase, T2 helps your muscles create more energy.
Extra energy means better muscle performance and recovery, which means better muscle health, faster muscle growth, and a higher metabolism at rest.
Compared to T3, it also preserves muscle mass during weight loss, making it ideal for thyroid patients who are actively losing weight.

How to Get & Use T2
Thousands of thyroid patients have added T2 to their regimen to get these benefits, and you can too.
Here’s how:
T2 is available in cream form and in capsule form.
The dosing for T2 Cream is 25 to 50 mcg per day.
The dosing for T2 capsules is 100-200 mcg per day.
Topical T2 is estimated to be around 2 to 2.5 times more potent than oral T2, which is why the dose is lower.
And research has shown that T2 doses of less than 300 mcg do not impact the HPT axis or cause TSH suppression.
But at these doses, you can still experience benefits related to metabolism, cholesterol, and T4 and T3 levels.
For best results, treat T2 like you would your thyroid medication. That means taking it away from other supplements, food, and beverages.
Remember:
You don’t need a prescription for T2, and it can be added and used with all thyroid medications.
But because the supplement world is not as regulated as the pharmaceutical world, make sure you purchase from a reputable supplement company!
Ensuring consistent dosing is key for all thyroid hormones.
When taken correctly, you should begin to see changes in your symptoms within 6-8 weeks.
