Description

How Thyroid Resistance Impacts Thyroid Function

As a thyroid patient, if you are looking to feel better, control your thyroid, manage your weight, and improve your hair then you know you need to optimize your thyroid.

And optimizing your thyroid is so much more than just taking some thyroid medication and calling it a day.

Optimizing your thyroid means ensuring that these three steps work seamlessly:

  • Thyroid hormone production: This refers to how much thyroid hormone your thyroid gland produces or how much thyroid medication you take by mouth.
  • Thyroid hormone conversion: This refers to your body’s ability to convert thyroid hormones correctly, starting with T4 all the way down to T1.
  • Thyroid hormone cellular activation: This refers to how sensitive your cells are to the thyroid hormone that you are producing and converting.

Each step is important but none is more neglected than the last: thyroid hormone cellular activation.

You can be doing everything right but if you forget this last step then it’s all for naught.

Why?

Because no matter how much thyroid hormone is produced by your thyroid gland or converted by your liver or gut, it doesn’t matter if your cells are unable to properly use it.

The assumption is made by doctors and thyroid patients that as long as you have enough thyroid hormone in the body it will do its job and everything will work out fine.

That’s certainly not the case, at least not for everyone.

The good news is that there are things you can do, and take, to help support how well your cells are communicating with thyroid hormone.

Thyro ADK is designed to do just that.

Fat-soluble vitamins like vitamin D and vitamin A are involved in this cellular communication process.

They help thyroid hormone work more effectively so it can make it into the nucleus of your cells to work on genetic transcription and help your body produce the enzymes and proteins it needs.

Key Ingredients

Thyroid patients have a big problem with vitamin D deficiency for two reasons.

The first is due to poor absorption and the second is from decreased activation.

Vitamin D has been added to Thyro ADK as the most active form, cholecalciferol.

Vitamin D supplementation in thyroid patients has been shown to positively impact TSH levels as well as calcium levels.

It’s also been shown in some studies to help lower thyroid antibodies, balance immune function, reduce depression, and impact thyroid hormone sensitivity.

Animal studies have shown that D3 supplements may alter deiodinase type 2 expression which is responsible for the creation of T3 thyroid hormone.

No matter how you look at it, optimizing vitamin D levels is a great tool for improving thyroid health.

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin that is important for thyroid cellular function.

Vitamin A helps regulate your thyroid at multiple levels including impacting pituitary TSH secretion, iodine uptake, liver conversion of T4 to T3, thyroid transport proteins in the bloodstream, tissue uptake of T3, immune health, and gut health.

Vitamin A supplementation in humans has been shown to improve TSH levels, reduce thyroid size/volume, help prevent goiter, and improve thyroid function more generally.*

Each serving of Thyro ADK contains roughly 2,000 mcg or 6,666 IU of vitamin A.

Vitamin K2 is an important regulator of calcium which works in conjunction with vitamin D to shuttle calcium to the correct locations in your body.

Thyroid patients are at increased risk of developing high cholesterol and, thus, heart attacks by virtue of calcium accumulation in the coronary arteries.

Vitamin K2 can help to shuttle calcium away from your arteries and into your bones where it belongs.

This enhances the strength of your bones (which are also negatively impacted by thyroid dysfunction) while improving heart health at the same time.

Vitamin K2 is included in both forms (MK-4 and MK-7) for full support to all tissues that need calcium and to enhance the effectiveness of vitamin D.

All of these fat-soluble ingredients are blended together perfectly in a healthy carrier: organic extra virgin olive oil.

This ensures the stability of the active ingredients, improves the taste of the supplement, and won’t cause issues with your diet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Thyro ADK provides your body with fat-soluble vitamins that are necessary for healthy thyroid cellular function.

Deficiencies are felt to be very common in hypothyroid patients of vitamin A, D, and K2 due to the impact the thyroid has on the absorption and utilization of these nutrients.

Vitamin D deficiency impacts over 1 billion people worldwide and is likely more common among hypothyroid patients due to the impact low thyroid function has on gut health and stomach acid.

Vitamin A deficiency isn’t as common in developed countries but a combination of iodine deficiency (which is becoming more common in developed countries) along with sub-optimal vitamin A levels can negatively impact thyroid function.

Due to the decreased conversion of vitamin K1 to vitamin K2, many hypothyroid patients are likely getting insufficient amounts of this important hormone vitamin.

Thyro ADK features all three of these vitamins in an organic olive oil base designed to help replace these levels to support healthy thyroid cellular function.

The bottom line? The more active your cells are to thyroid hormone, the better you will feel.

For best results, shake well prior to using and apply 12 drops by mouth with a fatty meal (breakfast works!) each day.

There’s no need to refrigerate Thyro ADK for storage purposes.

If you do place it in the refrigerator, please note that the contents may turn into a solid much like coconut oil turns into a solid when it’s cold.

If that happens, all you need to do is put it out at room temperature for about 20-30 minutes and it will return to a liquid.

It is not necessary to take Thyro ADK with a meal but we do recommend it for better absorption.

Thyroid cellular sensitivity is just a way to describe how receptive your cells are to thyroid hormone.

We know that there are both acquired and genetic thyroid resistance syndromes that can impact how well thyroid patients respond to thyroid medications and thyroid hormones produced from their own thyroid gland.

These resistance syndromes are very similar to those seen with other hormones such as insulin resistance, progesterone resistance, leptin resistance, and cortisol resistance.

What this means for you is that you may have adequate thyroid hormone floating around in your bloodstream but your cells may not be able to properly utilize that hormone.

For all intents and purposes, this makes your cells think you are in a hypothyroid state.

If your cells are unable to utilize thyroid hormone then you will not experience the benefits of thyroid medication or optimizing your own thyroid gland.

Physiologically speaking, your body requires the use of certain vitamins to help your cells use thyroid hormone.

Thyro ADK works on the premise that providing your body with these vitamins may help your cells better communicate with thyroid hormones and improve these thyroid resistance syndromes.

The study of thyroid resistance is limited, however, so right now we are working primarily with our understanding of physiology and thyroid patient experience.

The general experience among many thyroid patients is that taking fat-soluble vitamins like ADK can help reduce thyroid symptoms.

For more understanding as to how this process may work at the cellular level, please see the references at the end of the page.

If you are using 12 drops per day (the recommended serving size), the bottle will last 90 days or about 3 months.

Vitamin K2 is critical for thyroid patients for 3 main reasons:

#1. Vitamin K2 can help move calcium out to your arteries and into your bones.

Thyroid patients are at increased risk for developing heart disease (heart attacks) due to the impact thyroid hormone has on cholesterol.

Heart attacks stem from the development of plaques in the walls of the arteries found in your heart.

The formation of these plaques is a complicated process but both cholesterol and calcium play a role here.

Taking vitamin K2 has been shown to help properly shuttle calcium to the locations you want it to go (while avoiding the locations you don’t want it to go).

In this case, it helps move calcium away from your arteries and into your bones.

#2. Vitamin K2 can help strengthen bones and reduce your risk of fractures.

Thyroid patients are at increased risk for premature bone loss due to the impact thyroid hormone has on bone quality and bone strength.

Both types of thyroid dysfunction (hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism) result in problems with the structure and quality of your bones.

In hyperthyroidism, your bones turn over excessively and become more brittle.

In hypothyroidism, your bones remain intact, but their quality is reduced.

Both states increase your risk of fractures and long-term complications related to bone health.

Forms of vitamin K2 have been shown to help strengthen bones which is critical for thyroid patients.

#3. Vitamin K2 has anti-cancer activity.

Thyroid patients are at increased risk for developing multiple types of cancers from a combination of thyroid dysfunction and the use of certain thyroid medications.

Recently, there have been some large studies that indicate there’s a correlation between levothyroxine use and the development of multiple types of cancer.

We also have data that shows that thyroid patients develop cancer at higher rates than the average population.

Whether that’s because of their medication or because of the impact that thyroid dysfunction has on the body, it doesn’t matter.

As a thyroid patient, you should be aware of these risks and mitigate them as much as possible.

Vitamin K2 has been shown to have anti-cancer properties providing an added benefit on top of its effects on bone and heart health.

Thyro ADK features both active forms of vitamin K2 as MK-4 and MK-7.

Many supplements will use one over the other, but to get the full spectrum of benefits of vitamin K2 it’s important to use both.

Each form of K2 provides benefits to different tissues.

For instance, MK-7 appears to make it more readily to your bones providing better bone health benefits than MK-4.

MK-4, on the other hand, concentrates in tissues outside of the bones making it the better option for its anti-cancer effects and for supporting sex hormones.

As a thyroid patient, it’s important to get the full spectrum of benefits that K2 provides which is why both forms are included in this supplement.

Each serving (12 drops) contains 62.5mcg or 2,500 IU of vitamin D3.

Like all of my supplements, Thyro ADK can be used with all thyroid medications but just be sure to use it at least 30-60 minutes away from whenever you take your thyroid medication.

This will ensure that the ingredients do not cause any issues with the absorption of your thyroid medication.

Most people take Thyro ADK in the morning but it can be taken at any time of the day.

For as long as you feel that it is helping! It can safely be used indefinitely.

Some thyroid patients will want to use it long-term as a continual source of fat-soluble vitamins that can be difficult to obtain from their diet.

Other thyroid patients may find the benefit of using it temporarily for a few months to replace low levels while they optimize their diet and get back on track.

The vitamin D3 in Thyro ADK is sourced from lanolin which means it is not vegan.

Thyroid function is slow to respond when compared to other hormone systems in the body.

It takes 6 weeks of daily use of any thyroid hormone or thyroid support supplement before your body will reach a steady state which means it will take this long before it completely enters your system.

It’s usually around this time that you will start to see changes in how you are feeling but I recommend using any thyroid support supplement or medication for at least 90 days before determining whether or not it’s working for you.

Thyro ADK is very well tolerated and should not cause any negative side effects.

Yes! Thyro ADK can be used with all thyroid conditions including hyperthyroidism.

The use of Thyro ADK will not make your hyperthyroidism worse.

In fact, many studies have shown that taking vitamin D3 may help improve thyroid autoimmune diseases like Hashimoto’s and Graves’ disease.

It is gluten-free and it doesn’t contain any inactive fillers or binders!

The only other ingredient aside from the active ingredients is organic extra virgin olive oil.

Easy and effective

It’s so easy to swallow. Tastes good just like olive oil but not as thick. I take it with an empty stomach in the morning before my breakfast. I have very delicate stomach and no issues so far. I’ve been feeling more energized and focused. I definitely know this is helping because it’s the only addition to my routine this month. Will be purchasing again. Loving all the products I’ve tried (so many) and they do work. I just wish they had a faster shipping. I don’t mind paying for a faster shipment. Highly recommend each and every product here. And I’ve purchased everything myself. Dr. Childs have no idea who I am. Just to be clear. Try them as you can, you won’t regret and the customer service is A+++.

Better ingredients …

I switched recently to this brand as it also included Vitamin A and an extra form of K2 as MK-4. My current brand was missing these two ingredients. Plus mine were in capsule form vs the liquid form which I absorb better. Get labs done next week so I’m anxious to see if the serving recommendation (12 drops) gets me in an optimal range. If not and I I need to increase the serving, would I be taking too much Vitamin A?
