Protein Powder for Hypothyroidism & Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis

Functional Fuel Complete is the ideal protein powder for those who have thyroid related issues including hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s.

Because it contains a balanced blend of amino acids and protein from sources which do not include soy, dairy or gluten.

It’s not uncommon for protein powders to contain protein sourced from a dairy which can cause intestinal and immune issues in those who have thyroid related problems.

This can be avoided with a high quality, plant-based protein powder.

Beyond the typical protein powder, Functional Fuel also contains 22 vitamins and minerals as well as other additions which help your body absorb and utilize protein including Artinia and Aminogen.

This balanced combination has been used in hundreds of thyroid patients and has worked well to help replete vital nutrients, improve energy and help with weight loss.

Protein Powder is Important for Your Thyroid & Metabolism

If you are a thyroid patient then you know the reality of feeling fatigued, having low energy and gaining weight.

These symptoms are all too common among thyroid patients.

But what actually causes them?

While thyroid hormone certainly plays an important role, the role of diet and nutrient status should not be overlooked.

An unbalanced (or poor) diet can exacerbate your thyroid condition and lead to nutrient deficiencies.

That’s where functional food and protein powder step in:

Functional food is used to describe food which has a purpose beyond its function as a food.

It helps improve the function of your body and in this case, functional fuel is helping to provide your body with nutrients and helping to improve your thyroid.

It does this through its blend of protein and its blend of nutrients and trace minerals.

When you use Functional Fuel you can be sure that you are getting at least 1 amazing meal per day which is replete with nutrients, vitamins, protein and other ingredients that your body and your thyroid need to function day-to-day.

But high-quality protein powder does more than just provide your body with nutrients.

Protein, as a macronutrient, also helps your body to manage your appetite and build your muscle mass.

That means using protein powder can potentially help curb your cravings for unhealthy foods while providing your body with essential building blocks to create more muscle mass.

It’s a win-win.

But, like other food groups, the quality and the source of the protein matters!

Whey vs Plant Based Protein Powder

Most commercial protein powders are created used whey protein or whey isolate.

These protein powders use dairy as their source, the whey component.

This may not be a problem for most people, but thyroid patients shouldn’t be considered “most patients”.

And why is that?

It’s because your thyroid helps to regulate your immune system, produce stomach acid and controls the movement of your intestinal tract.

That means, if you have thyroid disease, you are more susceptible to gastrointestinal issues such as IBS, SIBO, acid reflux and poor absorption.

It also means that you need to take care of the quality and type of food that you ingest! And this includes protein powders.

Plant-based protein powders tend to be absorbed more easily, and are well tolerated when compared to dairy-based protein powders.

This is especially true for those with thyroid related conditions.

The moral of the story?

As a thyroid patient, you need to find a high-quality plant-based protein powder that will NOT exacerbate existing intestinal issues and one that will be easily absorbed and provide your body with the nutrients that you need to function at 100%.

Functional Fuel fits the bill on all levels.

How Much is Too Much Protein

While protein is essential for optimal performance, you also want to ensure that you are not getting too much.

The ideal amount of protein is a sufficient amount to regulate your appetite (help reduce your cravings) while providing your body enough to maintain your muscle mass and help promote new muscle growth.

Too much protein can actually make some hormone imbalances worse such as leptin resistance and insulin resistance.

Because of this, Functional Fuel contains the ideal amount of protein at 15 grams per serving (or about 7.5grams per half serving).

This amount is designed to help keep you full and maintain muscle mass without causing other metabolic problems.

Plant protein is also readily absorbed and utilized quickly when compared to other types of proteins.

I have been using Functional Fuel Complete - Thyroid Friendly Protein Powder (French Vanilla) for Hypothyroidism & Hashimoto's and a Thyroid Adrenal Support Supplement for about a month don’t really notice that big of a difference.
I eat no process food no carbs especially grains as the gluten bothers me - no sugar except for real fruit when I juice and I watch how much fruit I use and try to juice more veggies. I eat protein mostly fish and vegetables cooked or raw. I do have 1 glass of red wine with evening meal but not every night due to calories - I have back problems so working out is walking or riding a bike and stretching but still no weight loss. It goes up and down like a yo-yo.
But I have not lost hope I’m a firm believer that when you do things holistically it takes time so I’m going to give it 6 months before I move to another plan. So thank you for the coupon

Protein drink

Love this protein powder for all my smoothies!

Hi Anna-Maria,I use it in my smoothie just about every morning as well. Thanks for sharing and I'm glad it's working for you!
Use two scoops daily.

Love it. Gives me lots of energy and isn’t whey. I had tried Dr. Dean’s but it has whey and caused problems.

Hi Jean,I'm glad it's working out well for you! I think most thyroid patients do much better on plant-based protein powder compared to whey.
Great product

I've been looking for a protein powder that would work for me and it has been REALLY difficult. I have allergies to a lot of typical protein shake ingredients (soy, dairy, almonds, eggs, etc.) as well as the things they use to sweeten powder (sugars, sugar alcohols, and artificial sweeteners). On top of this, I have a methylation defect so I can't ingest typical B vitamins. This protein powder ticks all the boxes for me: it's compatible with my Hashimoto's restrictions, doesn't conflict with any of my allergies (it has a tiny amount of sweetener but my naturopath said it wasn't enough to bother my system), the B vitamins are methylated so my body can actually use them, and it has a great mix of protein, fat, and fiber. I don't use this everyday but more often when I need a quick meal or I can feel my blood sugar dropping and need something right away. I like to add walnut milk and a sprinkle of cinnamon, but I'm also thinking a bit of frozen banana would be good on days when I want a few extra carbohydrates. A scoop of canned pumpkin and sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice would also make this very tasty. Anyway, I would recommend this protein powder without hesitation for most people, especially if you have a thyroid problem.

Hi Briana,Thanks for sharing and it sounds like you are on top of your health! Many of the points you mention here are exactly why I made this protein powder.

A product I'll be reordering on a regular basis

Hi Maria,Great! I'm glad you enjoy it :)
