- Iodine is required for all human beings, regardless of thyroid status because humans can’t make it and they can’t live without out.
- Taking excessive doses of iodine can be problematic for hyperthyroid patients but normal physiologic doses do not cause problems.
- Even if you are trying to avoid iodine from supplements, you are unknowingly coming into contact with iodine on a daily basis. Iodine is found in foods like deli meat, milk, eggs, dairy products, and even fruits like strawberries and bananas. It’s also found in cosmetics and in medications. You are getting iodine whether you realize it or not!
- Physiologic doses of iodine (as contained in these supplements) are not only safe, but they are necessary to bring balance back to thyroid function.
