Thyroid management and treatment can appear to be very confusing, especially as a patient.

Part of this has to do with the fact that no two patients are alike. It’s possible for a statement to objectively true and false simultaneously regarding treatment.

This video outlines a sample of 10 different quotes and responses from patients on a wide spectrum.

I discuss why certain patients feel one way with medication and why others can feel the exact opposite. The quotes used in this video are taken directly from a clinical study (link in the article).

You can think of these statements as a proxy for larger segments of the population and you will probably find that you align with one or more of the statements detailed here. You can find a complete list of the statements that I discuss below:

#1. “Levothyroxine was worse than nothing.”
#2. “On levothyroxine, I felt myself getting sicker and sicker every single day.”
#3. “Just please find something that gives me my life back.”
#4. “I feel good while on levothyroxine.”
#5. “Now I take T3 also and started feeling better, but I still do not feel well.”
#6. “Combination therapy changed my life and health. In my view, it is the best therapy for hypothyroidism.”
#7. “I was finally put on extract after 28 years on other options. I would never go back.”
#8. “Had a thyroidectomy many years, no adverse reaction or symptoms.”
#9. “If you find something that improves mental clarity and energy, we’ll have something to discuss.”
#10. “I am on levothyroxine and have weight gain, brain fog, and pain in my points.”
